Vancouver Film School
VFS is a post-secondary entertainment arts school. In just one intensive year at VFS you receive a comprehensive education balancing theoretical instruction and hands-on production. VFS is known as the studio that teaches.
At VFS you will receive a one-year education equal to four years at other schools. Whether you are making films, designing video games, or bringing animated characters to life, you will create a body of work to showcase your abilities and launch your career
From script to screen, VFS Film Production is a comprehensive, rigorous, and demanding program that focuses on developing the fundamental skill-set for an Independent Filmmaker. At VFS you're in 1 to 6 hour classes Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, shooting films during class time, and on evenings and weekends. Film Production is an intense, creatively demanding environment that tests your skills in every role on a film crew. Students from around the globe are encouraged to embrace their cultural backgrounds and discover their own unique voice as filmmakers as they develop and produce a wide range projects.
In one year, VFS offers you the chance to work with digital video, 16 mm, and Super16mm film stock. Class sizes never exceed 30 students and there are up to 18 opportunities to direct projects during your year at VFS. Crafting dramatic, comedic, and documentary projects in the studio and on location, what you will learn at VFS comes from steady, hands-on experience in the many roles on a film crew. From Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Screenwriter, Production Designer, and the other behind-the-scenes crew positions, qualifying students gain professional and creative skills to prepare you to make entertaining, commercially viable, and meaningful films.
