Cannes film festival

cannes film festival

The Cannes film festival is a prestigious international film festival, It was celebrated the first time in the coastal city of Cannes (south of France) in 1946 , from September 20 to October 5, Since then it has been celebrated every year, except for some exceptions.

The origin of the Cannes festival comes from the necessity of conceiving an alternative to the film festival of Venice that was under a fascist influence that moment. The festival took place at the first time in 1946 and it has only been suspended twice, in 1948 and 1950 due to the insufficient budget.

The Cannes festival is an "A" class category festival, it is also accredited by the FIAPF (Fedération International des Associations de Producteurs de Films). Other accredited festivals are the Berlin festival, Venice festival, San Sebastián festival or Mar del Plata among others.

In the Cannes awards, among others, a well-known prize named "Golden Palm" is given by an international jury composed by worldwide film professionals. Some times, several movies can share the award in the same year.
