Sundance film festival

Sundance film festival

Sundence, is an international film festival annually celebrated the last two weeks of January in Park City, a town near to Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah in the United States. It was created in 1978 by Robert Redford, initially it took place in Salt Lake City but later, in 1981, it was moved to Park City.

This festival is one of the most important independent film festivals around the entire world. At the beginning Sundance was a cinematography institute but soon it was necessary to show to public the works created by young filmmakers. One of the curiosities of this festival is its name "Sundance", because it was the name of the character that Robert Redford interpreted in 1969 in "Butch Cassidi and The Sundance Kid" (Butch was interpreted by Paul Newman).

The festival includes competitive sections for dramatic movies as well as american and international documentaries and a group of no competitive sections, it also includes an online film festival.

Sundance has always favored to independent filmmakers and it has played a fundamental role in developing new talents for cinematography, this is the case of Quentin Tarantino and Coen brothers.
