Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking
The Institute is named for acclaimed screenwriter Dan Gordon's oldest son, who died at the age of 22. Zaki was a brilliant filmmaker who made his film independently despite studio interest in his screenplay. He was uncompromising in his art. Fortunately, his passion for and commitment to storytelling and filmmaking continues to live on through the Institute.
The Zaki Gordon Institute (ZGI) is dedicated to creating a new generation of filmmakers. Experienced or new to the crafts, take advantage of the latest technology and learn from the best within a film industry model. At ZGI everyone takes a shot at directing their own movie!
The film school is located in beautiful Sedona, a small city in Northern Arizona, just south of Flagstaff and two hours north of Phoenix. Sedona's inspiring red rocks make it one of the most photographed destinations in the world and home to numerous artists.
Co-founded by acclaimed screenwriter Dan Gordon, ZGI first opened its doors in 2000. Fully accredited as part of Yavapai College and a member of CILECT, the association of the world’s major film and television schools, ZGI has earned a reputation for delivering quality education at a very reasonalble price. Founding director of ZGI, Stephan Schultze, strongly believes that keeping the tuition affordable gives students more mobility after graduation.
