Some programs focus on design - graphic, industrial, interior, and Web design. Others concentrate on creative applications in photography, animation, multimedia, Web site development, video, and culinary arts. These programs at The Art Institute of Colorado have been developed with an eye toward tomorrow's technology and draw on almost five decades of educational experience. The Art Institute of Colorado is located near downtown Denver, and relocated to a new modern facility in 2000. Students learn from a faculty of experienced educators and professionals. The Institute is in session year-round and, depending on the program, students can graduate in 18 to 48 months with either an Associate of Applied Science or Bachelor of Arts degree. New online course opportunities are available to students as well.
Begin with fundamentals, such as studies in mass communications, media writing and computer applications. Add the basics of studio and location production. Learn lighting skills, camera operations, audio and non-linear editing. Go to the next level, utilizing multiple cameras, digital audio and video, plus multimedia technology. At the same time, learn the business end, putting together a strong résumé and the ability to handle an interview with ease. Then, you’ll produce your own video creation from start to finish. You’re ready when you’ve compiled a reel of your best work that shows potential employers just how capable you are.
After graduating, you’re prepared for entry-level positions in pre- and post-production, lighting and directing, or jobs such as production assistant, camera operator, videographer, video editor, tape librarian, lighting assistant or gaffer, or off-line editor. As you gain experience, you’ll advance to more senior positions. You could work in broadcast and cable industries, entertainment and corporate environments, production and post-production services, commercial production utilizing film, TV and video. Or freelance, with a variety of projects at a combination of venues.
