Department of Telecommunications
The Department of Telecommunications (TCOM) offers programs and courses designed to prepare students for careers in the traditional media of television, radio, and film, as well as emerging media industries. Students can choose from these options:
Film and television studies—Offers courses that examine the relationship between these disciplines and society, focusing on critical thinking and multiple academic approaches. Prepares students for advanced studies in film, electronic media, and related fields.
Multimedia—Offers courses in the theory and practice of using digital technology to create interactive products, including DVDs, Websites, and CD-ROMs. Prepares students for careers in multimedia design and production.
News—Offers courses in electronic news and information programming, focusing on writing, reporting, producing, and ethical decision making. Prepares students for careers in broadcast and online journalism.
Production—Offers courses in the skills and techniques of creating content for traditional and emerging media. Prepares students for careers in radio, television, and related media industries.
Sales and promotion—Offers courses in the theory and practice of selling and promoting media time and content. Prepares students for careers in sales, promotion, and management.
The department emphasizes experiential learning through its media facilities, which include radio and television outlets managed by both students and professional staff. Student internships also are available with numerous media companies throughout the United States.
