Theatre and Film Program
Saint Augustine's College was founded in 1867 in Raleigh, North Carolina by prominent Episcopal clergy for the education of freed slaves. Over the years, it has become one of the country's most highly respected private, accredited, historically black, coeducational institutions of higher learning.
Saint Augustine’s College, located in the historic district of downtown Raleigh, is unique in its offering of a combined major in theatre and film. Core level courses introduce students to both disciplines. As students advance, they choose their areas of concentration.
The philosophy of the theatre and film program is that students learn by doing. Class sizes are small enough to offer individual attention for all students. The facilities and state of the art equipment provide the opportunity for practical, hands-on experience in production for the camera and stage. The theatre and film program also offers internships and workshops with visiting professionals. Our 4 year program leads to a BA degree in Theatre & Film.
Is our mission to instruct students in the art and craft of filmmaking, in order to prepare students for learning at a higher academic or professional level. Students' productions are filmed in our fully equipped soundstage and on location.
Students can focus on:
•Motion Picture Directing •Screenwriting •Documentary Filmmaking •Acting for the Camera •Technical Filmmaking (camera, lighting, sound, editing, etc.)
