South Bank University (Arts, Media & English (Digital Film and Video))

Our primary focus at the South Bank University is on our students. Our mission is to provide them with a rich and diverse range of academic programmes, underpinned and informed by relevant research. We will do this within a supportive environment which celebrates the diversity of our community and which enables our students to develop both academically and personally during their university careers.

The BA Digital Film and Video degree will give you practical production experience in the use of digital video formats. Through practical projects you will become familiar with a range of film and TV genres, including, factual programming and documentary as well as the short feature and original drama. In addition to your practical work you will develop an understanding of the broader contexts of film, television and digital imaging. BA Digital Film and Video is 50 per cent practice and 50 per cent theory.

You will learn how to originate film and video ideas, shoot and digitally edit your own work and output it to DVD. You will be able to take related subjects in scriptwriting and multimedia.

You will learn the traditions and principles of both documentary and feature film, as well as experimental and digital video production. You will also take theoretical subjects that explore issues of representation, narration, identity and power in television, film, photography, new media and the arts. In the final year of your degree you will be encouraged to produce your own high level work for a video showreel.

he BA Digital Film and Video is designed for people who want to go into the areas of feature and documentary film production, commercial video, video art, post-production, video editing and directing within the advertising, television, film and on-line industries. This is also an excellent course for those who want to make a career change into these areas or who want to enhance their current media skills.

Recent students have done work experience for Saatchi and Saatchi, LWT, Nick Broomfiled and various independent film and TV production companies, and student films have been screened at the London Time Out Student Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.
