Fitchburg State College (Communications Media/Film and Video Department)

Fitchburg State College is an institution of higher education that integrates an interdisciplinary, multicultural liberal arts and sciences core with all professional and arts and sciences majors.

Fitchburg State College's Communications Media Department offers students the education and experience of being part of one of the most fascinating fields of study. In combination with the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program, Communications Media fosters the development of skills critical to adapting to an ever changing technological and knowledge-based society.

We are proud to say our students develop the resources to pursue careers in a broad range of media, business, public, and educational organizations; or to continue their education beyond the degree they earn at Fitchburg State College. A unique feature of our curriculum is the strong emphasis on application of what is learned in the classroom to everyday experiences as a professional. It is our hope that what we teach will become meaningful when students have a chance to use them in ways that make important connections between learning and practice. We take pride in the dedication of our faculty to challenge our students to think critically. More than this, we are inspired by the abilities of our students to think, and create in ways that extend how people see their world.

This concentration allows students to concentrate in either film or video. Students have access to production and editing equipment that is at a level of industry standards. Most students will have an opportunity to use this equipment within their first year. This concentration is designated to allow students the opportunity to experience the kind of team approach to production that is common to all areas of professional media. Students may also choose to take courses such as Scriptwriting, Directing for Film and Video, and Post-Production.
