Point Park University (Department of Cinema and Digital Arts)

We’re on the brink of a revolution in media production. Digital technologies are breaking down economic barriers and enabling almost anyone with a camera and a computer to make a movie. That’s the good news. The bad news is that a lot of people are making a lot of, well, bad movies. That’s where we come in. If you have the passion and creativity, our Department has the teachers, equipment and facilities to help you earn your Bachelor of Arts degree.

The Department of Cinema and Digital Arts has new, state-of-the-art facilities — including 10 non-linear editing suites, a sound mixing studio, a foley / audio recording studio and a professionally equipped soundstage. And with western Pennsylvania as our back lot, the creative possibilities are limitless.

Point Park University’s Bachelor of Arts degree program in Film and Video Production provides students with professional training that involves making one or more films during each year of study. Offered in cooperation with Pittsburgh Filmmakers — a major media arts center — the program emphasizes filmmaking and includes courses in film studies. Students produce work in both Super 8 and 16mm film, as well as video formats and learn to utilize the medium for creative expression and communication. Production classes stress artistic merit and technical proficiency. At the end of the freshman and sophomore years, faculty members evaluate the work of each student and provide recommendations about areas that may need improvement. Students who have not displayed the necessary skills required to succeed in the field, may be encouraged to consider pursuing a new academic major.
