Rowan University (Department of Radio, Television, and Film)

From the modest normal school begun 75 years ago, Rowan University has become an extraordinary comprehensive institution that has improved the quality of life for the citizens of New Jersey and the surrounding states.

Rowan provides an exceptional environment for achievement and fulfillment in a dynamic society through rigorous intellectual effort and vigorous personal interaction among all members of its diverse learning community. As a regional public university committed to teaching, Rowan combines liberal education with professional preparation and offers undergraduate through doctoral programs. The Rowan ambition: knowledge through study; responsibility through service; and character through challenge.

We have been a Radio/Television/ Film program for 25 years and many hundreds of our graduates are working in today’s diverse media world. We have a “hands-on” reputation we are proud of, and we have always believed that learning about the business of media production is just as important as making the media. This is an exciting time to be learning radio, television and film production and research skills. We feel confident that our program can prepare you for today’s ever-evolving media world, and we hope you will visit us in the near future to see for yourself.

The department of Radio/TV/Film offers students courses in radio, television and film production, as well as courses in the history, business, and aesthetics of the media. Students can select one of two tracks within the program: The Traditional Production Emphasis, which is based in the department’s, state-of-the-art digital production facilities, and a new Non-Production Track in Radio/TV/Film Studies. This track prepares the student for media studies in graduate school and/or careers in education and literary criticism. Students who complete both of these programs posses a broad-based liberal arts background and a strong preparation for either the media production industry or advanced media studies.
