Eastern Mediterranean University (Department of Radio-TV-Film)

EMU, with a very proud past of 25 years in the service of higher education, is on its way to becoming an EU University in the very near future, and with a brand new vision and dynamism has launched a university-wide initiative to "Aim for the Peak of Quality.” The new EMU is the perfect candidate to be the "leading shining star" of the region with its new administrative staff and the new programs it is implementing to achieve change, quality and accreditation.

The Department of Radio-TV-Film has developed an interdisciplinary project that combines both theory and practice in the media arts. The program offers opportunities for film analysis, single camera ‘film-style’ production, television, studio and field, radio and audio production, multimedia production and a variety of aesthetic, theoretical and analytical courses that focus attention on the media arts as important contributors to culture.

Radio-TV-Film has an active and exciting media learning environment which helps students realize their potential in the challenging and rewarding careers of media, and prepares them for a future graduate work in communication and media studies. The international teaching staff in the Department of RTVF emphasizes contemporary communication theory-in-practice, where research is intricately linked to the possibility of critical and creative production work. The RTVF program encourages students to engage in intellectual and scholarly inquiry and to critically and creatively engage in the production of media programs. The goals of RTVF compliment the University goal of a liberal arts general education where students are encouraged to begin a life-long learning process that does not simply begin and end at the university but becomes an intricate part of each student’s life. The goals of RTVF include the combining of both theoretical and practical learning; the positioning of our student body so that they can successfully compete for their chosen career direction in media industries; to accentuate the importance of scholarly, critical and creative work by encouraging students to present the product of their efforts beyond the classroom through participation in national and international conferences, competitions and exhibitions; to promote student success through readily available and accessible academic and program advising. RTVF has also established strong bonds with the media markets both in Northern Cyprus and in the region which offer unique opportunities for our successful RTVF students to experience real-work environments in the media markets.

Students of RTVF have access to DAU TV, our university television station, video production facilities, video field equipment, master control, editing facilities, campus radio station, and the possibility of engaging with the local broadcast media through internship programs. Our television and radio stations broadcast throughout Northern Cyprus and student programs are regularly aired to the local community.

Our international student body has found their preparation in the RTVF program, both scholarly and professionally, to provide a solid foundation for successful entry into media markets in Cyprus, the Mediterranean region and internationally. The program also provides a firm foundation for post-graduate level work in communication and media studies.
