San José State provides a comprehensive university education, granting bachelor's and master's degrees in 134 areas of study. In 1928 a new department of "Speech and Stagecraft" was formed at San Jose State College. In 1937 Hugh Gillis became chair of what was called the Speech Arts Department. In 1942 that name was changed to the Department of Speech and Drama. In 1963, Speech and Drama split into two departments. Speech became Communication Studies. In 1975, Drama became Theatre Arts. In 2000, our name was changed to Television, Radio, Film and Theatre.

Department of Television, Radio, Film, and Theatre you can make films using 16mm and 35mm film and digital video. you will edit on Moviolas, Flatbeds, Avid Media Composer & Express, Final Cut Pro and Express. Watch and discuss films in 5 Film Studies classes.
