University of Bristol (Department of Theatre, Film, Television)

Bristol is the university of choice for exceptional numbers of talented applicants and our academic departments offer a huge variety of programmes.

We welcome applications from talented candidates of all backgrounds and we are committed to promoting equal opportunities. The life of the University is enriched by having a body of students which reflects the community at large and includes students from all parts of the UK (including the local area), from other EU countries and from overseas, and which contains mature students as well as people who come straight from school or college. We select people who have the ability and motivation to benefit from their intended programmes of study and who will make positive contributions to the life of the University.

The Department of Theatre, Film, Television offers a lively inter-disciplinary environment for the practice and study of performance and representation across a range of forms and media, underpinned by dedicated teaching and world-class research. Our resources include the Wickham Theatre, an adaptable space where its productions are presented and practical theatre teaching takes place; the Brandt Cinema and video viewing complex which serve the study of film and television; and the internationally recognised Theatre Collection which is both a theatre archive and a reference library. The Department has broadcast-standard film and video making equipment.

In addition to some 150 students following undergraduate courses, the Department has postgraduates studying for the MA in Cultural Performance, the MA in Cinema Studies, the MA in Television Studies, the MA in Film and Television Production, MA in Archaeology for Screen Media, the MA in the Composition of Music for Film, Television and Theatre, and for research degrees. New MA programmes will cover Screen Practice, Cinema Studies, Documentary Practice , and Performance Research , and enquiries are also invited from those wishing to pursue individual research in any of the very wide range of areas we explore. The Department welcomes a number of students from other countries, including those wishing to spend a year of their undergraduate course abroad through the university's Study Abroad Programme.
