The liberalization of radio and television broadcast industry in Portugal, together with exponential developments in communication technologies, resulted in a growing demand for professionals in the field of audiovisual production. The new Media Industry requires qualified human resources with strong skills in Artist, Technology, Culture and Ethics. An Institution with such imperative social responsibilities as the Portuguese Catholic University could not stand indifferent and created in 1997, at the Porto Campus, the first Portuguese University Degrees in the Sound and Image area of studies. The Sound and Image undergraduate and postgraduate degrees have privileged technological infrastructure permanently up-to-date and advanced curricula that provide solid know-how in fields such as Television and Screenwriting Production, Sound Design, Computer Animation and Digital Arts. Following a policy of permanent up-to-date Pedagogy, always present at the Portuguese Catholic University, the Sound and Image University Degrees are designed according to the University Models proposed in the Bologna Process.
