Staffordshire University (Faculty of Arts, Media & Design (Film Studies))

Staffordshire University is a large university with approximately 12,000 full-time and 3000 part-time students. It is situated on three main campuses, Stoke, Stafford and Lichfield. The Faculty of Health and Sciences' nursing and midwifery provision is located at Stafford, Shrewsbury, Telford and Oswestry. In addition, the University has some 5000 students studying overseas on Staffordshire University awards in China, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Greece, Spain and France.

(BA Hons) Film Studies offers a wide-ranging study of cinema, its history, codes and conventions, its various genres and movements, exploring cinema as a system of communication, as an industry and as an art-form. This includes different forms of film from around the world: comedies, thrillers, horror, musicals, documentary, art films and experimental cinema.

You also develop certain practical skills, e.g. video production and scripwriting. The course is available as a single honours programme but you can combine studying film with another subject by taking a joint degree. Joint honours Film Studies, however, does not involve video production.

We provide a range of support mechanisms. Personal Tutors oversee your academic work; Module Tutors provide advice on individual modules; Award Tutors and Level Tutors oversee the operation of the Film Studies award. Student Mentors (level 2 and 3 students) provide advice and help throughout the year.

Staff in Faculty Office will provide you with various forms and information as well as collecting your essays and assessed work. Throughout the award there are modules on offer to help equip you with the skills required to support the learning process, e.g. IT, research and writing skills.
