Orange Coast College (Film & TV Department)




Orange Coast College, located in Costa Mesa just minutes from Southern California’s beautiful beaches, was founded in 1948 with an opening day enrollment of 500 students. In the years since, it has grown into one of the nation’s largest -- and finest -- community colleges, enrolling more than 28,000 students each semester. Featuring exceptional facilities and the latest in computer and high-tech equipment, OCC offers more than 130 academic and career programs, including one of the nation’s largest and most acclaimed public nautical programs. Nearly half the students on campus are enrolled in one of OCC's career and technical programs.

The Film/Video program at Orange Coast College is designed to give students two years of extensive theory, technical experience and hands-on training in the basic skills required for employment in the film, video and television industries.

The film/video program emphasis is on 16mm film, digital video, and television studio production. Topic areas include fictional narrative, news, documentary, instructional, industrial, video art, non-linear editing, and sound techniques. Academic courses include film history, home video marketing, history of broadcasting.

Required courses for the Film/Video program may include study in film history, basic photography, film/video production, editing and sound, television production, computer graphics, script writing, acting for camera & stage, contemporary film and film or video special projects.

NOTE: Each required and elective class must be passed with a grade of "C" or better to qualify for the Certificate of Achievement.
