Valencia Community College (Film Production Technology)

If you can dream it, we can help you create it! Consider yourself a techno-freak? Do you feel a creative connection to the digital world? Do you have a fascination for graphic arts, music, movies, theater or film? If so, Valencia's Arts & Entertainment programs can help you turn what you love into what you do for a living.

As Central Florida continues to grow as a major film production center with two major movie giants–Universal Studios and Disney’s MGM Studios–located right here in Orlando, there is a corresponding need for trained technicians with skills in making movies. Valencia’s nationally recognized Film Production Technology program is a selective admission, limited enrollment program and trains students for entry-level positions in six major areas of film production. These areas include: gripping, electrical-lighting, editing, sound, camera, and set construction. Students may specialize in Cinematography or Post-Production. All of the classes are hands-on and are taught by professional film makers. In fact, Valencia’s Film Production program has been called “one of the best film schools in the country” by renowned director Steven Spielberg.

This program is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level positions in Cinematography or Post-Production. Emphasis is placed upon developing production-related skills in the following areas: camera, grip, electrical, sound, editing and set construction. Technical prerequisite courses are designed to develop fundamental technical skills and broaden future placement possibilities. The Advanced Courses are taught as a series of master classes or "intensives" which may not conform to normal class scheduling or to the Academic Calendar in the online official catalog.

The Advanced Courses are limited enrollment, selective admission courses which require successful completion of the technical prerequisite courses and then submission of a separate application as part of the selection process.

A second method of admission to the Advanced Courses requires the applicant to submit, with the application, a resume detailing his/her professional experiences that justifies a waiver of the technical prerequisite courses.
