City & Islington College (Film Studies and Television Production)

If you want to study at one of the country’s most successful colleges, City & Islington College is your choice.

Our excellent achievement rates were one of the main reasons for our outstanding Ofsted inspection in 2004. Since then we have been awarded Beacon status in recognition of the high quality of our teaching and learning.

How have we become so successful? Firstly, because we value our students – the range of backgrounds, experiences, energy and enthusiasm that students of all ages bring to the College. We celebrate their success, set challenging targets and provide excellent support.

Film Studies and Television Production Pathway:
We will deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film - perhaps the major art form of our times. You will engage with a wide range of different kinds of films. We look at mainstream, independent, US, UK and world cinema. We develop your skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection.

Learn camera, lighting, scriptwriting, sound recording, editing and other techniques and work in a team producing programmes including documentaries and drama. You also learn about film analysis, prepare for a seminar and write about films. We provide help with note taking, writing skills and research. You work independently and in small groups. After initial training, students organise themselves and operate like a small film/video.
