Ohlone City College (Fine Arts & Broadcasting)

The College is one of 109 community colleges in the State of California, which offer the associate degree or the first two years of study toward a bachelor's degree. Many students then transfer to complete their four-year degree at an institution in the California State University or University of California systems or at other public or private universities.

Ohlone College is an accredited college, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Ohlone College is also authorized by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to enroll non-immigrant students.

Life's great memories include not only significant events, such as family and personal triumphs, but also the aesthetic experiences gained from the arts and from nature. Ohlone College offers many opportunities for personal achievement in arts for students and for the community. Participation in the arts broadens perspectives, stimulates the imagination, celebrates diversity, builds bridges across cultures, and exposes us to magnificent artistic monuments.

Fine Arts & Broadcasting is part of the Division of Fine Arts, Business & Broadcasting.

Education for Life and Work. Fine Arts & Broadcasting consists of the departments of Art, Broadcasting (Film & Television and Radio), Multimedia Studies, Music, and Theatre and Dance. Instructional programs serve three main student constituencies: (1) transfer, (2) occupational, and (3) continuing education. We seek to assist in the development of cultural arts in the Fremont-Newark community.

Access and Excellence. The division offers general education classes in the arts and provides practical instruction in studio art as well as performing opportunities in musical groups and theatrical productions. The annual student art show takes place each spring in the Louie-Meager Art Gallery.

KOHL is a commercial-free FM radio station broadcasting in the contemporary hit format. Because of the high level of professionalism projected by Ohlone broadcasting students over the air, many area residents are unaware that they are listening to a student station. Ohlone TV (ONTV) is a community access cable station with course offerings and state-of-the-art equipment in camera work, non-linear editing, and news broadcasting. Both of the stations provide professional-level facilities and training for those who wish to enter the broadcast profession.
