Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München

The University of Television and Film Munich, Germany first opened its doors in 1967. The education it offers is oriented toward careers in film and television: story editors, script analysts, film directors, production managers and producers. The University's goal is to give its students a profound understanding of audio visual medias. In that sense, the theory and practice, and the development and production of a film are given equal emphasis.

The average student completes his degree within 8 semesters. After 4 semesters there is a preliminary examination, then a final exam and diploma when all of the course work has been completed.

The University is state supported by the Free State of Bavaria. The Bayerische Rundfunk (Bavarian public broadcaster), Zweite Deutsche Fernsehen (German public broadcaster), the City of Munich and the Bavarian State Center for New Media all contribute money, technical equipment and services. The University cooperates with national and international film schools and is a member of the International Association of Film and Television Schools (CILECT). And, the University works together on several levels with the media professionals, companies and institutions in and around Munich.
