Aristotel University of Thessaloniki (School of Film Studies)

We would like to welcome the students of the School of Film Studies, both first-year students who chose this newly-established School for their studies full of faith and dreams, and second-year students who return for their new academic year 2005-2006, already counting a year of experience which contributed to the first dynamic steps of the School.

We would also like to extend a warm greeting to those people, colleagues, members of the film community, friends who, as they browse this Study Guide, are tracing the first steps of the first higher education institute of film studies in Greece.

Our brief overview will not focus only on the tensions, hard work, worries and concerns of the previous year, but also on the care, cooperation, alertness, planning, efforts and, above all, the enthusiasm that emerged out of all School activities, from the daily routine of teaching and practice to the cultural happenings that gradually developed, thus transforming criticism into creative energy.

Bearing in mind the mission and objective of the School of Film Studies, as they are described by the Foundation Act, that is to ?cultivate and promote the art of film, within the framework of a broader audiovisual education? which is accomplished through ?academic and applied research and teaching? so that the School provides to its graduates ?the qualifications that would ensure their competence in their artistic, scientific and professional career and development?, we have tried to make the School a ?locus? that would allow the cohabitation and coexistence of these three parameters ? artistic, scientific, professional ? so that it really develops into an academic and cultural crossroads.
