Seattle Film Institute

The Seattle Film Institute, founded in 1994, offers the largest film program in the Northwest.

Our program is well-known for both the small size of our classes and our commitment to hands-on education. The faculty members of the Seattle Film Institute are not only dedicated teachers but they are also experienced professionals in their chosen fields. The large inventory of equipment provided by the Seattle Film Institute means that from Avid editing systems to Arriflex cameras, students have access to all the tools they need to produce professsional quality results.

The Seattle Film Institute is centrally located in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle and is less than 10 minutes from downtown.

The Mission os SFI is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, tools, and experience that are needed:

- To pursue a career in the motion picture industry
- To follow their own creative path as independent filmmakers or screenwriters
- To furnish a foundation in filmmaking for work in digital video or on the web

THE 40 WEEK FULL-TIME TOTAL IMMERSION FILMMAKING PROGRAM
The 40 Week Full-time Filmmaking Program provides a comprehensive and integrated hands-on overview of the filmmaking process. Students are in class and hands-on labs for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week for 10 months. Each of the program's 4 classes - Elements of Filmmaking, Tools of Production, Film History, and Screenwriting - meets once every week. In addition, students also participate in Production Labs throughout the program.

EVENING CLASSES AND WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Whether you're interested in film production, digital video, documentary, screenwriting, film history, editing, directing, or producing, you'll find a home at the Seattle Film Institute. Classes have been carefully designed so that you can take a single class in a specific area of interest, develop a custom designed evening program of study or complete a certificate program in film production or screenwriting.
Documentary and Film production classes usually meet on Thursday nights, Screenwriting on Mondays or Tuesdays, and Film History on Wednesdays. This means that you can take a single class in a specific area of interest, choose a certificate program in film production, documentary, or screenwriting or custom design your own program by taking multiple classes in different areas of interest at the same time.
