Texas Christian University (TCU Department of Radio-TV-Film)

The Department of Radio-TV-Film seeks to produce well-rounded, highly-skilled students who are aspire to work in the entertainment industries. The department offers an integrated program that provides a strong foundation in the creation of content, how the media business works, and analysis of the socio-cultural impact of the media. Subsequent courses build on this orientation, while also encouraging students to specialize in a chosen area of interest.

The department occupies the south ground floor wing of the Moudy Building. RTVF is well equipped to serve students in all media-related areas. The department is the only Avid-certified post-production facility in Texas. The department offers 17 Avid workstations. The department also has a surround-sound theater, a multi-format FM radio station, film production equipment, two sound stages, and a new media lab. The department also houses a permanent collection of over 12,000 film and television titles in the Gwendolyn P. Tandy Memorial Film Library. The collection, used by faculty in RTVF courses, offers unusual depth and breadth for students interested in film and television production, history, and criticism.

The Department of Radio-TV-Film encourages students to see the media industries
from multiple perspectives, and prepares students for many different careers and for graduate education. After a set of"core"courses, students are required to take a mix
of courses from three major areas: analysis/history, production, and industry studies. Radio-TV-Film students will graduate with a working knowledge of media history and of
the media's changing socio-cultural role, as well as an appreciation of the complexity
and creativity of producing films and radio and television programming. They will also
have fundamental skills in written and oral communication and have a plan of action regarding the careers they wish to pursue.
