The Art Institute of Philadelphia (Digital Filmmaking & Video Production)

The Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program at The Art Institute of Philadelphia provides intensive training for individuals who want to be successful in this fast-paced, creative industry. Whether it’s information or entertainment, the wide appeal of electronic media has created an increasing need for people skilled in the video production arts.

By working with a faculty that includes experienced professionals, students in the Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program develop competence in the use of the video camera as a technical and imaginative tool for communications art.

By gaining competencies in camera operations, lighting, editing, and studio and location
productions, students establish a professional confidence to solve problems and to contribute as a member of an artistic team. Pre-production, lighting, and computer applications augment this skills foundation. Students progress to more advanced skills in multi-camera production, post-production techniques, non-linear editing, and the creation of a video from initial idea to final, edited composition.

The Associate of Science program provides a foundation and develops skills in effective media communication, visual design, and basic storytelling. The knowledge gained from each class serves as a building block for the framework of an educated professional.

The Bachelor of Science program expands this foundation with in-depth upper-level courses in acting, directing, marketing, and scriptwriting. Through focused research and group projects, students are able to utilize their skills for creative projects that will enhance their final demo reel.

Graduates of the Digital Filmmaking & Video Production programs develop technical capabilities and the business, marketing, and promotional skills necessary to create opportunities in markets nationwide. Entry-level employment opportunities exist in the pre-production, lighting, directing, technical, broadcast, production, post-production, and business aspects of the digital media industry.
