The Art Institute of Washington (Digital Filmmaking & Video Production)

The Art Institute of Washington is a branch of The Art Institute of Atlanta, and prepares students for careers in the visual and practical arts. The programs of study are carefully defined with the support and contributions of leading members of the professional community. The curriculum is reviewed periodically to ensure it meets the needs of a changing marketplace. An impressive faculty of working professionals strives to strengthen students' skills and cultivate their talents.

The fast-paced, creative digital filmmaking and video industry offers an opportunity to work with a camera and in an edit suite that leads not only to sitcoms, newscasts, and visual feature stories, but also productions for sales, marketing, advertising, education, and the music industry. Emerging and evolving technologies are changing the video and film industries and knowing how to combine traditional production techniques with the appropriate digital tools is the key to success.

Student learn visual effects and video graphics using computer applications like Adobe After Effects, as well as developing practical skills such as crew relations. The associate’s program in video production emphasizes technical skills. In the bachelor’s program, students develop additional creative skills as well as more advanced classes in project management and business marketing.

Graduates of the associate’s program are prepared to begin their careers in television broadcasting and private video production companies in entry-level positions such as camera operator, production assistant, editor, master control operator, or assistant floor director.

Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program are prepared to seek entry-level positions where they create dynamic content by formulating, constructing, combining, and delivering digital audio, video, broadcast graphics, and animation, using a variety of traditional and new media, including CD, DVD, television, and broadband internet.
