The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan

The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan isn’t simply a film school.

It is a carefully designed program that trains students in the fundamental arts and sciences of motion picture production.

It is a network of instructors, peers, professionals, and resources for aspiring filmmakers to produce their films even beyond graduation.

And, it is by far one of the most affordable (under $10,000) one year film programs in the country. Our motto is “on set education” and that is where our students learn.

The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan is designed for beginners with no experience as well as those with some film and video background. The MPI Program is conducted in an active environment where students learn by doing. And throughout the school year we assist each student to specialize their education so they may focus on their key areas of interest. "On set" education is our motto and that is where our students learn.

The Motion Picture Production Program is offered as a one year intensive course of study. Students take twelve core filmmaking courses and one to three electives that allow them to specialize their skills.

Award winning film director and founder Douglas Schulze states The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan mission is:

“To offer aspiring filmmakers a training ground from which they can develop their craft, access professional tools of the trade and determine a logical career path all within a cost effective and supportive environment.”

As a vocational / trade school licensed by the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, MPI offers personalized training that few other film schools can. Founded in 1995 and first licensed on February 28, 1998, MPI provides students with a hands-on film education concentrated in a one year program. With a total tuition cost of only $8,995.00 the Motion Picture Production Program is the most cost effective one year film program in the country. And with new financing options just about anyone can attend.

If you want to make a film, come to MPI. We'll get it done.
