Film criticism

The film criticism consists on analyzing, evaluating, and meditate about the movies, ask questions about them, try to understand its essence and try to understand what they show us, its purposes, meanings and senses, those which the conscious or unconsciously director describes in his work.

This process begins with the pleasure for the movies being a spectator, and from a simple spectator he becomes to someone who really loves the movies, which doesn't conform just observing movies and somehow he appropriates of them, feeling and speaking about them.

Criticism is one the best ways to think and go further than a simple sensorial impression that is presented on a movie. The movies are a huge source of knowledge which incites reflexion and provides a better understanding of life and human nature. This reflexion is many times better achieved if it is written.

These people dedicated to give their opinions in different media such as Internet, radio and television are called "film critic". Besides this, they usually follow in a near way the professional career of the main characters of them. These can be people who have studied films or their history in universities or people who have studies like theatre or literature.

Film criticism can be divided in journalistic and academic criticism.

Journalistic criticism.- This type of criticism is appreciated in newspapers as well as in magazines, these critics usually write reviews about the last premieres and their opinions usually have a great impact on the economic acting of them. Many people say that who practice this type of criticism are only movie reporters, leaving the denomination of "film critic" to those who practice the academic critic.

Academic criticism.- This type of criticism tries to rescue the artistic aspects of a movie and try to understand the reasons and the creative process which originated it. It also tries to understand why the movie was made, how it works as well as which are the effects it produces on the society. It has a close relationship with film theory and the study of films. It uses specialized media such as magazines instead of using media to great scale. The academic critics usually make their jobs as a part of a university or some educational institution.
